After checking everyone’s safe and exchanging details with the other driver, there’s the added stress of knowing you’ll need to make an insurance claim and go through the process of getting your car repaired or replaced.
Plus, you have to find alternative transport until your car is fixed.
However if you’ve been in an accident, you may be eligible for a hire car while your car is being repaired – at no cost to you.
Getting back on the road faster
Most people don’t know that if you’re not at-fault in a car accident, and more than one car is involved, you may have the right to a loan car with the costs covered by the at-fault party.
There a few companies that offer this and they can arrange a hire car for the duration of repairs or in the event of a total loss, until the claim is finalised. Sometimes you will receive your hire car within 24 hours.
To be eligible, it has to be agreed you weren’t the at-fault driver in the collision.
You also need to be able to give them the name and address of the at-fault driver.
If you can meet the criteria, they’ll arrange a hire car for you if you need one.
They’ve partnered with Australia’s biggest hire car providers and have cars available at more than 900 locations.
What if I’m at-fault?
The benefit only applies to not-at-fault drivers.
If you are at-fault and you have the hire car option on your policy, then you’ll be provided with a hire car.
Otherwise they may be able to provide you with a hire car at discounted rates.
I already have the hire car option on my policy – how is this different?
With your hire car option on your policy, you get a hire car for up to 14 days, regardless of who was at fault in any incident that’s covered.
This includes incidents, such as hail damage and collision with an animal, where there’s no other party involved.
The not-at-fault hire car cover is available, whether they have the hire car policy option or not.
